Developing a Community Owned Hydro Power in the Derwent Valley, The story so far;

September 2011
Volunteers from Transition Belper interested in Hydro Power attended a workshop organised by Climate East Midlands and the Environment Agency to carry out a weir survey. Transition Belper volunteers surveyed all the river barriers in the Amber Valley area.

September 2011
Ian, Richard & David visited Torrs Hydro the first ‘community owned’ Hydro Power installation

October 2011
Public opening of existing Hydro Power facilities at Milford and Belper as part of the world heritage discovery days week.

December 2011
Start talks with landowners of major potential sites in the Derwent Valley.

March 2012
The Transition Belper energy group were successful in a LEAF bid from DECC of which some of the money raised could be used for a ‘desktop’ study of Hydro Power potential in the Derwent Valley.

June 2012
The Transition Belper energy group were one of 7 community groups across the UK to win the  Co-operative Community Energy Challenge and support for 18 months.

October 2012
Public opening of existing Hydro Power facilities at Milford, Belper and the new turbine at the Longbridge weir at Derby as part of the world heritage discovery days week.

July 2013
A feasibility option agreement is signed with the landowner at Ambergate Hydro to determine the feasibility of installing Hydro Power at the largest remaining Hydro Power opportunity within the Derwent Valley.

August 2013
Ian, Richard and David set up Amber & Derwent Valley Community Energy (ADVyCE) Ltd, an Industrial & Provident Society for the benefit of the community.

September 2013
ADVyCE Ltd commission an update of the Hydro feasibility study and a Fisheries Assessment at Ambergate Hydro.

March 2012
